Traditionally whenever the BIG EAST Conference tournament looms, the Seton Hall Women’s Basketball team regularly is playing to their full potential. On a snowy night outside of Walsh Gym, the ladies were not running their plays and fell to a No. 11 Villanova by a score of 83-56.
It would have been interesting to see how other Seton Hall Women’s Basketball teams would have responded to the challenge of this year’s Villanova squad, as the Wildcats have one of the best College Women’s Basketball players in the Country on their team.
Maddy Siegrist, who has been shooting the lights out in most of the gyms that she enters in, has been helping to lead Villanova to a 26-5 overall record and a 17-3 BIG EAST Conference mark.
Seton Hall (17-13, 10-10 BIG EAST), however has been able to play some great basketball, showing glimpses of why they are also amongst the ranks of the great College Women’s Basketball teams. As of late though they have not shown that form.
It is thanks to that play that after the loss to Villanova the journalist sat in front of a frustrated Head Coach Anthony Bozzella stood in front of the media and had this to say after the team’s tough loss, “We let them shoot 54% in the First Quarter, 55 % in the Second Quarter and 55 in the third quarter and that is not really good defense.”

There were glimpses of great play during the course of the game, as Senior Azana Baines had a team-high 22 points. Baines was able to have a 10-for-18 shooting performance from the floor, as well as being able to grab five rebounds.
Sidney Cooks, who was honored prior to the start of the game for now having over 1,7000 points in her time with Seton Hall, was able to add on to that total by adding nine points.
Lauren Park-Lane contributed with her five points and five assists. Park-Lane has been one of the players to watch for during the course of The Hall’s season, as she has been able to set the single-game scoring record on February 13. In addition, the Senior Guard is the Colleges all-time assists leader, while also holding the school’s career, single and single game-marks.

The duo of Cooks and Park-Lane have also been honored by the BIG EAST Conference at the start of the season, when they were named to the All BIG-EAST Team.
Rounding out the scoring was Mya Bembry who had four points, including some beautiful jump shots as the game progressed.
