One of the leaders of the Washington Spirit both on and off the pitch in Aubrey Kingsbury is coming back to the team, as a three-year deal has been agreed to recently.

Kingsbury, who has been one of the more vocal players on the field for the Spriit in guiding their defense and making some ESPN highlight reel plays will continue to lead the team through the 2023 season and beyond. The goalkeeper has appeared in 27 matches, while making 86 saves, in addition representing the team during the Concacaf W Championship in Mexico.

The Washington Spirit who signed Kingsbury in 2018 has allowed for her to shine, and since that time the keeper has been able to win two NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year awards (2019 and 2021) while also named as the NWSL Championship MVP during the 2021 season.

“I couldn’t be more excited to sign a long-term contract with the Spirit,” said Kingsbury. “No one is investing in women’s sport like Michele Kang is. The Washington Spirit is assembling a championship-caliber team of staff and players alike, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Kingsbury, who is a Cincinnati-native, attended Wake Forest University prior to being drafted by the Spirit. Aubrey also shined in her College years, as in the final three seasons held a 0.81 goals against average with 218 saves. In addition, Kinsbury was a three-time All-ACC selection, while also racking up a ton of other awards.

“Aubrey has consistently been one of the best performers in this league across all areas of goalkeeping,” said Head Coach Mark Parsons. “She has been an integral player and person for this team, and I am looking forward to our staff supporting her to take the next steps in her development.”
