Washington Spirit rewards Tara McKeown with New Contract

The Washington Spirit have been bringing back the players who they feel will help them to another NWSL Championship run. The team recently rewarded forward Tara McKeown with a three-year contract with a team option for 2026.

McKeown has been a part of the offensive core that includes Ashley Hatch, Ashley Sanchez and Trinity Rodman. After missing some time Tara returned to the Washington Spirit during the international window. Overall the forward was able to make 12 remaining regular season matches, along with 1,000 minutes of action.

“I’m so excited and grateful to extend my time with the Spirit,” said McKeown. “I love the vision this club has developed and can’t wait to bring another championship back to DC.”

A native of California, McKeown had herself an outstanding College career with the University of Southern California prior to being drafted by the Spirit with the eighth overall pick in the 2021 draft. In her time with the Trojans, McKeown had 33 goals, 28 assists in 76 appearances. Some of the accolades that McKeown has been able to earn in her time in the college ranks includes, First Team All-American honors, a First Team All-Pac 12 honors twice along with a Pac-12 All-Freshman nod in 2017 and an All-Pac 12 Third Team nod in 2018.

“Tara is a talented player who has impressed the coaching staff with her commitment to wanting to improve and be a leader in this group,” said Head Coach Mark Parsons. “I am looking forward to working with her and know she has the ability to keep improving in 2023.”
