In the hopes of bringing the best and brightest talent to the team, Gotham FC announced that they have signed McCall Zerboni signing a new one-year contract for the 2023 NWSL season.
“I am very motivated to help make Gotham FC a highly competitive fútbol club for this upcoming 2023 season,” said Zerboni. “I believe in this squad so much and want to serve the fans and my teammates with a year they will never forget. I’m grateful for the relationship I have with the club and excited for the opportunity to be on the pitch with this squad for my fourth season in a row!”
Zerboni has been one to watch for Gotham FC, as the midfielder started in 21 matches while scoring three goals. One of the more memorable moments thus far included scoring the game-tying goal in the clubs 3-3 draw with the Portland Thorns in the teams’ season finale. Thus far Zerboni has been able to play in 42 regular season games in addition to 11 Challenge Cup games with the team.
Off the field Zerboni has also been able to make an impact by winning the inaugural Ally Award, which recognizes NWSL players who embody the concept of ‘teammate’ while supporting and motivating veterans and rookies alike. During the NWSL Championship game in October, McCall along with the original NWSL Players were honored for their fine play and leadership.
In addition the club announced the re-singing of midfielder Delanie Sheehan to a two-year deal.
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to continue to develop as a pro with Gotham FC,” said Sheehan. “I have loved being a part of this team, club, and community these past few years and am looking forward to what’s in store for us.”
Sheehan was selected by the team with the 33rd overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft. Thus far in her career, the midfielder appeared in 16 matches.
Delanie has shined at every level she has had the chance to play, as the Brentwood, California-native attended and graduated from UCLA. While playing for the Bruins during the 2017-2001 seasons she has been able to record 15 goals and 18 assists in 86 matches.
In addition Sheehan has also made an impact at the international level, as she has been able to represent the U.S. at the U-18, U-19 and U-20 levels.
“Delanie is a player we drafted and believe in, so we’re very happy to have her under contract and to see her progress under the guidance of our new coaching staff,” said GM and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West.
