New York Jets to Recognize Navy Veteran Michael Torto as ‘Fan of the Year’

On Sunday during the Week Nine Salute to Service themed game versus Buffalo, the New York Jets will surprise Michael Torto, a Navy veteran of 21 years, as its “Fan of the Year.”

Early in the second quarter, Torto will be brought on-field where a special message from current Jets players will play on the videoboards, announcing that he has been selected as the 2022 Jets Fan of the Year. Following the video, Jets Legend Laveranues Coles will present Torto with tickets to this year’s Super Bowl in Glendale, AZ.

Michael Torto, a lifelong Jets fan, was born and raised in Newark, NJ and attended St. Patrick’s HS in Elizabeth, NJ. Raised by a single mother, Torto opted to join the U.S. Navy to avoid having to pay for college. This decision began a 21-year career in the Navy where he served in numerous roles including Signalman, Quartermaster, and Navy Recruiting Counselor. During his time in the Navy, he spent time in, but not limited to, Djibouti, Romania, Bahrain, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. Torto recently moved back to New Jersey where he lives with his wife, Jasmine, and three children.
