As the New York Mets entered the day on Friday night, there was a buzz and excitement felt at Citi Field that has not been felt in a while. To have an opportunity to play for a World Series is something that every baseball player dreams about and every baseball fan hopes to be able to see in their city.
With ace Max Scherzer on the mound, the crowd of 41,621 had hoping to see a Game One Wild Card Victory. What the crod saw was a tad bit of a shocker as the San Diego Padres was able to use the long ball, eventually walking out of the day with a 7-1 victory.

The Padres, who were powered by Josh Bell, who hit a homer in his postseason debut, got on the board early and never looked back. In addition to Bell, the visiting side had a homer by Trent Grisham, Jurickson Profar, and Manny Machado.
Meanwhile on the mound for San Diego, pitcher Yu Darvish was masterful with his ability to spin the ball and keeping the Mets off balance. Darvish went seven innings, while sitting down four batters to earn the victory.
Scherzer, meanwhile, came into the game with 160 strikeouts during the postseason, was able to add onto his eventual Hall of Fame numbers by striking out four batters, making the total 164. The hope for Scherzer and the Mets faithful is that the team can stay alive and the starter will be able to have a chance to redeem himself, while also adding onto that strikeout total.
The lone Mets run came in the bottom of the Fifth Inning when Eduardo Escobar was able to hit a homer to left center field.
Friday Night Citi Field will be rocking once again and this will be the last hope for the Mets, as this is a best-of-three series against the Padres. It will be another pitching treat, and a battle of aces as Jacob deGrom takes on Blake Snell.

*The Mets have lost four postseason games for the first time in club history dating back to Game 4 of the World Series.
*New York holds a 30-18 record at home in Postseason Play, that includes a 4-4 mark at Citi Field.
*Jacob deGrom has started in four career games in October. All the starts were during the 2015 run the team had and had earned his first victory with a 7.0 inning shutout, sitting down 13 batters with one walk.
