Five Spirit Players Called Up to USWNT for October Friendlies

Five Washington Spirit players have been called up to compete with the U.S. Women’s National Team in next month’s friendlies against England and Spain, U.S. Soccer announced today.

Making the call-up list from the club are forward Ashley Hatch, goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury, forward Trinity Rodman, midfielder Ashley Sanchez and midfielder Andi Sullivan. With five of the 24 latest call-ups coming from the defending NWSL champions, Spirit players will make up over 20% of the USWNT when it travels to Europe in early October. Hatch has the most goals scored for the USWNT out of the bunch, with four goals in 13 appearances while Sullivan leads the group in appearances for the USWNT, clocking in at 33 international contests. Kingsbury will look to maintain her spotless record as she earned a clean sheet in her sole appearance for the USWNT on April 12 against Uzbekistan.

Of the seven Spirit players that competed with the national team during July’s Concacaf Women’s Championship in Mexico, defenders Kelly O’Hara and Emily Sonnett are the only ones not getting the nod for next month as they continue to rehab lingering injuries.

The USWNT will take on England and Spain in two international friendly competitions next month beginning with a match at Wembley Stadium in London on Friday, October 7. Following the first matchup between the U.S. and England in over two and a half years, the defending World Cup champs will head to Pamplona for a Tuesday, October 11 match against Spain at Estadio El Sadar.
