Defense one of the keys for the Washington Mystics in 78-73 victory over Atlanta

It was a close one for the Washington Mystics, but ultimately the ladies were able to earn a 78-73 victory over the Atlanta Dream in WNBA Action on 5/20/2022.

One of the keys to the team’s victory was that of the stellar defensive play by Alysha Clark, who had some big moments during the course of the night.

With the victory the Mystics are off to their best start (5-1) through six games since the 2018 season. The Mystics had themselves a fine offensive effort as well, outrebounding Atlanta 25 to 10, while the ladies also outrebounded their opponent 33-26.

The ladies have played well on the road as they hold a 3-0 mark, the last time the team had accomplished this feat was during the 2015 season.

One of the leaders on the offensive side of the floor was Ariel Atkins, who had a team-high 18 points. Shakira Austin netted 10 points, while also adding seven rebounds, while continue to show the WNBA that she is going to be a rookie to watch for during the 2022 season.

Austin has now recorded at least 10 plus points and five plus rebounds in a single game three times this season.

Natasha Cloud was a huge part of the team’s successful offensive night, as the guard was able to dish out a team-high five assists. Cloud has tallied at leat five plus assist in a franchise record eight consecutive games.

Making her debut with the Mystics was Elizabeth Williams, who had five rebounds, one block in 15 minutes of action. 

It will be a quick turnaround for the ladies who will return to the Washington D.C. area for a game on Sunday against the reigning WNBA Champions the Chicago Sky. The game between the Mystics and the SKy is set for 3:00 p.m. with the game set to air on the ABC Network.
