Julian Champagnie Garners BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Spot

For the second straight week and the sixth time overall this season, Julian Champagnie has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced on Monday by the league office.

Champagnie, the leading scorer in the conference at 21.4 points per game this season, was sensational for the Red Storm during a 1-1 week that featured an overtime loss at Connecticut and a home win over Georgetown at Madison Square Garden.  He averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals for the Johnnies, who ended the week with a 2-2 record in conference play.

On Wednesday in Storrs, Champagnie posted 27 points on 10-of-22 shooting, including a 4-for-9 effort from beyond the arc.  The Brooklyn native, who hit a go-ahead triple with just four seconds remaining in regulation, also grabbed five boards, dished out a pair of assists and came away with two steals in a career-high 44 minutes of action.

On Sunday against the Hoyas inside “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” Champagnie netted a game-high 25 points to go along with six rebounds and three steals.  The Bishop Loughlin product went 9-for-20 from the field and 7-for-9 from the charity stripe, matching a career-high for free throws made in a game.

Champagnie and the Red Storm will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Omaha for a 7 p.m. contest with the Creighton Bluejays on FS1.
