There will be some roster changes for the Washington Spirit as the team is currently preparing for a match against the North Carolina Courage this Saturday.
First move the team has made recently has been the signing Taylor Aylmer and Morgan Goff to National Team Replacement contracts.
Taylor Aylmer, a Garnerville, New York native, is a midfielder who graduated in 2020 from Rutgers University. Before joining the Spirit, Aylmer was a National Team Replacement Player for NJ/NY Gotham FC during the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup where she made one appearance. During her four years at Rutgers, Aylmer played in 85 games, scoring four goals and recording 17 assists. Aylmer will wear number 26 for the Spirit.
Morgan Goff is a defender and midfielder from Dunn, North Carolina. Goff is a graduate of the University of North Carolina where she played in 101 career games. Most recently, Goff played for Þróttur of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna in Iceland. Goff will wear number 28 for the Spirit and will be available once U.S. Soccer confirms receipt of her International Transfer Certificate.
Spirit Chief Soccer Officer and President of Sporting Operations Larry Best had this to say about the signings: “We welcome both Morgan and Taylor to the Spirit Family. As a NTRP, it’s a great opportunity to join our roster and we look forward to having them as part of our team both on and off the field.”
In addition the Washington Spirit has waived defender Natalie Jacobs at her request in order to pursue other opportunities.
The 23-year-old from USC was the club’s No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NWSL Draft. This season, Jacobs has played 167 minutes in four matches. During the 2021 Challenge Cup, the Coto de Caza, California native started two matches and recorded the lone assist of his career. During the 2020 Challenge Cup and Fall Series, Jacobs played in eight of the nine matches and started in five, totaling 397 minutes.
The Spirit will return to Audi Field this weekend to take on the first-place North Carolina Courage on Saturday, July 10 at 7:00 p.m. ET. The match can be streamed on Paramount+ in the US and on Twitch for international viewers.
