NWHL Isobel Cup Semi-Finals Preview

The National Women’s Hockey League is set to see who the best team in the league will be as the Boston Pride will take on the Toronto Six in an Isobel Cup Semi-Final game on Friday, March 26.  In the second of the two Semi-Final matches the #2 Seeded Minnesota Whitecaps (3-1) takes on the #3 Connecticut Whale (2-2).

Toronto comes in as the leagues #1 seed, holding a 4-1-1 record, while Boston has the #4 seed with a 3-4 record.

These two teams have met before during the 2020-21 season, as Toronto earning a 2-1 victory over Boston, as the Six were able to outshoot the Pride by a tally of 38-25.

Toronto Mikyla Grant-Mentis was able to lead the NWHL in goals (5), game-winning goals (2) and co-led the league in points-per-game average (1.5) and points (9) at the conclusion of the regular season. One of the players to watch for on Boston is Kaleigh Fratkin, who co-led the league in points (9) and assists (9).

Some of the other offensive leaders for the Pride include Christina Putigna (8), McKenna Brand (7), and Jillian Dempsey (6) who are four of the top five point-getters during the 2021 season.

One of the advantages for the Boston Pride is the fact that the Semi-Final match against the six will be played at the Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton, Massachusetts.

For the game against the Whitecaps vs Whale, the Whitecaps has been led by Nina Rodgers who shared the lead in power-play goals (2) and points-per-game average (1.5).

As for the Whale they were led by Alyssa Wohlfeiler is one of the stars of the team, having 1.3 points-per-game (2) and fourth in assists.

The Six and the Pride will start of the race for the Isobel Cup with their game at 5:00 p.m., with the game between the Whitecaps and Whale to follow at 8:00 p.m.
