Georgetown wins big over Marquette to open the BIG EAST Tournament

It was a fast paced and action-packed game to start the BIG EAST Tournament, as No. 8 Georgetown was able to defeat No. 9 Marquette 68-49 in College Basketball action at Madison Square Garden.

Georgetown was able to maintain the offensive momentum early and often in the game, showing off a great scoring presence and overall team play.

Leading the way on the offense for the Hoyas was Jahvon Blair who finished the game with 20 points, while also dishing out two assists. Qudus Wahab followed with 19 points and seven rebounds.

Marquette showed a ton of heart and fight, but just could not find a solution for the aggressive Georgetown offense. Leading the way for Marquette was D.J. Carton who finished the game with 17 points.

This is the third ever meeting between these two teams in the BIG EAST Tournament, as the Hoyas have been able to win all three matchups, including the games these two teams played in 2006 and 2010. This was also the 31st all-time meeting between these two teams.

Up next for the Georgetown Men’s Basketball team will be a 12:00 p.m. game against No. 1 Villanova in the Quarterfinal round, which will be played on March 11.
