The Fordham University Women’s Basketball team is hoping to extend their winning streak with two home games against Saint Joseph’s and La Salle this weekend.
If the Rams can earn victories, they will be able to extend their winning streak to six games, which will be the longest of the season.
Up first the team will take on Saint Joseph’s on Friday with the start time set for 12:00 p.m. with fans wanting to catch the action can do so by checking out the NBC Sports network.
When it comes time for Fordham taking on Saint Joseph’s, it is the visiting team that comes in with the all-time series advantage holding a 38-12 record in a rivalry that started in 1972. Fordham has been able to pick up one victory in the first 20 matchups, which was a 74-65 victory during the 1996 season.
Fordham has been able to change their luck against St. Joseph’s recently, as they have been able to win eight of the last 12 games, which includes three straight. Last season these two teams were able to meet twice in the Bronx in a four-day span, as they were able to play during the regular season and in the first round of the A-10 Championship.
One of the players to watch for in the Fordham line-up is Anna DeWolfe, who is 12th in the NCAA Division 1 rankings when it comes time for scoring with her 22.8 points per game. The Cumberland, Maine native has been able to record a career-high 34 points against Hofstra and has been able to see 700-points for her career in the game against Rhode Island on Sunday.
One of the keys for success for the Rams is the fact that they have been able to play well when it comes time for grabbing rebounds. The team has averaged 39.2 per contest and has the 15-highest rebounding margin in the country.
Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley, who had a milestone moment in the game against Rhode Island on Sunday, in earning her 200th victory of her Coaching career has been to lead her team to some other great accomplishments.
Since Gaitley took over before the 2011-12 season, the Rams hold a 119-32 (78.8%) record at home across 151 contests. Over the last four-plus seasons, Fordham holds a 63-12 mark in Rose Hill Gym, which includes a 31-6 mark in conference play.
After the game against Saint Joseph’s will be a test against La Salle on Sunday, with the game set for 2:00 p.m.
