It was a thriller between two great NHL teams, but it was the Buffalo Sabres that were able to skate off with a 4-3 shootout victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.
Buffalo started off strong thanks to a Second Period goal by Eric Staal at the 9:03 mark. New Jersey was able to respond later in the frame thanks to a goal by Ty Smith.
For Staal he has been able to heat up as of late for the Sabres, recording three goals and four points in the last five games he has played.
Andreas Johnsson was able to give New Jersey a 2-1 lead thanks to a goal at the 1:37 mark of the Third Period. Buffalo responded with a goal by Tobias Rieder at the 2:18 mark.
Victor Olofsson was able to give the Sabres a brief 3-2 lead with a goal at the 10:56 mark, that was wiped away by a goal by the Devils at the 14:41 mark by Janne Kuokkanen.
Buffalo was able to skate away with the victory thanks to a shootout goal by Jack Eichel.
Thanks to the victory the Sabres were able to earn points in five straight games, and this victory was able to push them above the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Playing wonderfully in the cage for Buffalo was Linus Ullmark, turning away 31 pucks.
It will be a quick turnaround for both teams as they will be facing-off on Sunday (tomorrow) in a game that is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
