AUDIO: Washington Spirit Head Coach Richie Burke shares these thoughts with the media prior to the 2020 NWSL Fall Season

The Washington Spirit, as well as the rest of the NWSL are getting ready for the second edition of the NWSL Season, as this time around team’s are having an opportunity to play in their own stadiums. Washington will have an opportunity to play at Segra Field, which is located in Leesburg, Virginia.

The 2020 NWSL season starts this Saturday for the Spirit as they face a familiar foe in Sky Blue FC. Fans of the Spirit are going to be seeing the team without one of their leaders, as the franchise traded Rose Lavelle to the OL Reign, and will look to Aubrey Bledsoe and Paige Nielsen to fill the leadership void.

Washington will look to avenge a penalty kick loss to Sky Blue FC in the quarterfinals of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. During that match vs New York, Washington was able to have some tremendous opportunities, while also being aggressive on the offensive side of the ball. It was the play of Sky Blue FC Keeper Kailen Sheridan that was able to keep the Spirit off the board.

The Washington Spirit has been able to have success over Sky Blue FC in recent years. Some of the players who have found scoring success for the Spirit are defender Sam Stabb and Jordan DiBliasi.
