Liberty look to Block the Sun in WNBA Action on Tuesday

The New York Liberty (2-13) look to block out the Connecticut Sun (7-9) in WNBA action on Tuesday Night. New York looks to continue to be one of those really tough and gritty teams that will be a hard team to beat on the floor, while they also develop their younger stars for the future season.

Here are some interesting notes for fans to enjoy:

The Liberty (2-13) fell to the No. 2 Las Vegas Aces, 80-63, after three hard-fought quarters on Saturday afternoon. New York shot 33.3% from the field (22-66) and beyond the arc (9-27), and tied their season-high with 44 rebounds.

In her fourth game with the Liberty, Paris Kea broke her career high with a game-high 11 first-half points in just 9:34 minutes. She finished with 14 on 71.4% (5-7) shooting from the field and 66.7% (4-6) beyond the arc.

Amanda Zahui B totaled 6 points including 21 rebounds, 13 of which she nabbed in the first half. Amanda now holds the 2020 record for most first-half rebounds of any player in the W. Entering the game, Natasha Howard held this season’s high with 11 first-half rebounds (8/18/20). Zahui also broke New York’s franchise single-game rebounding record (19, previously held by Tina Charles– 7/14/17) with 21. Zahui B now owns the WNBA’s single-game defensive rebound record.

The Connecticut Sun (7-9) are also coming off win on August 31 where they outlasted the Washington Mystics, 76-63. DeWanna Bonner led all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Alyssa Thomas and Kaila Charles both contributed 16 points each for the Sun.

In the team’s first meeting of the season on August 22, Connecticut bested New York, 82-65.

Kia Nurse recorded a team-high 17 points with 4 assists and 3 boards. Layshia Clarendon added 12 points on 40.0% (2-5) shooting from beyond the arc.

Alyssa Thomas led the Sun offense with a game-high 25 points, while Jasmine Thomas added 16 points. DeWanna Bonner posted a double-double of 14 points and 12 boards to go along with 6 assists.

The Sun swept the Liberty in the 2019 series, winning all three contests. Since 2018, Connecticut holds a 5-1 record against New York. In all-time series history, including the Sun’s previous tenure as the Orlando Miracle, the Liberty have an overall record of 39-42 (.481) against the franchise.

Amanda Zahui B – Currently has 920 career points and 99 assists.
Kia Nurse – Currently sits at 932 total career points, 199 rebounds and 242 free throws made.
Layshia Clarendon – Averaging a career-high 12.5 points per game.
Kiah Stokes – Has a total of 866 career rebounds.
