New York Liberty Struggles Continue with 94-64 loss to Lynx

The New York Liberty (1-9) fell to the Minnesota Lynx (7-3), 94-64, on Saturday night. The Liberty shot  81.8% (18-22) from the free throw line.

New York had 31 rebounds, 12 assists and 36 bench points.

The Liberty scored 22 points in the paint on the night.

Four of New York’s top five scorers against the Lynx were rookies (Jones, Shook, Odom and Walker).

Minnesota held the Liberty to a season-low 64 points in the contest. New York’s previous season-low of 66 points also came against Minnesota on August 5.

Key Runs:

Minnesota struck first and went on a 7-2 run to open the game but New York answered. Neah Odom scored 6 of the team’s first 9 points.

New York went on a 4-0 run and took its first lead of the game with 5:10 remaining in the first quarter.

Minnesota’s 9-4 run to end the first quarter gave them a 5-point lead heading into the second.

New York outscored Minnesota 7-4 with 6:29 remaining in the second quarter to cut the deficit to only two points (29-27).

The Lynx went on an 8-0 run, to take a 10-point lead with 2:51 remaining in the half.

New York ended the second quarter on a 5-2 run, however, Minnesota outscored the Liberty 17-13 in total and went into the locker room up 9 points.

The Lynx opened the second half scoring 11 unanswered points, extending their lead to 20 points, the most of the contest at that time.

New York answered with an 11-5 run with 5:27 remaining in the third. The Lynx bounced back with a 12-5 run to close the third with a 19-point lead.

Minnesota maintained control through the fourth quarter, as the Lynx went on a 19-9 run through the first 6:46 minutes of the final frame.

PLAYER NOTABLES

Jazmine Jones scored a team-high 13 points, which is now her third consecutive game in double-digit scoring figures.

Fellow rookie Kylee Shook tied her career-best scoring performance with 9 points over 24 minutes, also a career-high.

Neah Odom recorded 8 points, 6 of which came during an early Liberty run in the first quarter.

Layshia Clarendon also added 8 points along with 2 assists and boards for New York.

Amanda Zahui B totaled 5 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks tonight.

For Minnesota, Napheesa Collier was just one-point shy of her career-best, scoring 26 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to lead her team to victory over New York. Collier also tied her career-high in assists, dishing out a total of 5.

Minnesota rookie Crystal Dangerfield shot 9-12 (75.0%) from the field, totaling 22 points on the evening.
