Sky Blue FC Hosts Reign FC at Red Bull Arena for Historic Showdown

Coming off a 2-1 win against Chicago on Wednesday, Sky Blue FC (3-11-3) heads to Red Bull Arena on Sunday, August 18th for a matchup against Reign FC (7-4-5) at 1 p.m. Sky Blue is expecting to break their all-time club attendance record for this historic game in Harrison, New Jersey.

Sky Blue sits in eighth place in the NWSL standings with 12 points and a record of 3-11-3. Reign FC sits four spots ahead in the standing with 26 points and a record of 7-4-5. Sky Blue’s all-time record against Reign FC is 4-8-5, and 2-4-2 at home.

Sky Blue rookie Paige Monaghan scored her first professional goal and game winner in the 2-1 win over Chicago on Wednesday, August 14. Monaghan is just the seventh NWSL player to open her scoring account with a brace since at least 2016, and the first since Kristen Hamilton in June 2017. Sky Blue has five players with multiple goals this season, with Raquel Rodriguez leading the pack with three goals. Lloyd, Dorsey, & Hoy are the other players with two each.

Sky Blue shot-stopper Kailen Sheridan is the only player to have made 50+ saves in each of the last three seasons. Sheridan has the best save percentage among keepers with more than 50 saves and is on track for the fifth highest in NWSL play since at least 2016. Sheridan has prevented 9.5 goals this season.

Opponent

Reign FC is coming off a 3-1 loss against Utah Royals FC at home in Tacoma, Washington. The Reign have won four of their eight road games this season, only losing two and drawing twice. They have only won 5 or more road games in a season twice, with eight road wins in 2014 and five in 2015. The haven’t lost in their last eight games against Sky Blue with seven wins and one draw, their longest active streak against any current NWSL team.

Reign players to watch are Bethany Balcer, Shea Groom, and Rosie White. Balcer leads their attack with three goals and one assist. Groom and White have two goals each.

The Reign have suffered multiple injuries this season, with six players on the season ending injury list.

Sky Blue FC vs. Reign FC Rewind 

The two teams last played each other on May 18th at Cheney Stadium. Sky Blue FC scored an early goal from Raquel Rodriguez but fell short to Reign FC in a 2-1 loss.

Looking Ahead

On August 24th Sky Blue FC heads to Houston to play the Dash at BBVA Stadium. This will be the third meeting for the two teams this season.
