Ponds helped the Red Storm kick off the week with its fourth BIG EAST win of the season, posting 26 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and six steals in the Johnnies’ victory over Creighton. The win marked the first for St. John’s in Omaha since Creighton joined the conference prior to the 2013-14 season and gave the Red Storm a season sweep of the Bluejays for the first time since the two became league foes. Ponds, who passed the 20-point mark for the seventh straight game, connected on 10 of his 17 attempts from the floor, including four of his eight tries from beyond the arc.

On Saturday in Durham, Ponds scored all 11 of his points in the second half of a loss to No. 2 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Brooklyn native also dished out four assists and came away with four steals in the losing effort.

On the year, Ponds ranks third in the BIG EAST in scoring (20.4 ppg) while leading the league in assists (5.6 apg) and steals (2.9 spg). He is one of just three players in the nation to rank inside the top 40 nationally in scoring and assist average alongside Murray State’s Ja Morant and Howard’s RJ Cole.

Ponds and the Red Storm return to action tomorrow evening, closing out a three-game road swing with an 8 p.m. showdown against No. 10/9 Marquette in Milwaukee. The Johnnies will look to secure a season sweep of the Golden Eagles, whose only loss in conference play came at the hands of St. John’s on New Year’s Day. The Red Storm will also seek to become the first visiting team to upend Marquette inside Fiserv Forum, where the Golden Eagles are 14-0 this season in the building’s first year of existence.
