Hofstra MBB Ships Up To Boston For Northeastern Showdown

The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will conclude its current three-game road swing on Saturday when the Pride puts its nation’s best 16-game win streak on the line at Northeastern.

Tip-off from Matthews Arena is slated for 4:30 p.m. The game will air on NESNPLUS TV.

There will be Pride Productions live video/audio of the game as well as live statistics. Links to all three can be found on this page as well as on the men’s basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. The video broadcast is courtesy of Northeastern and the audio only broadcast is via WRHU (88.7 FM).

Hofstra upped its record to a spectacular 19-3 and moved to 9-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play with a dominating 84-61 win over Towson on Saturday.

In addition to having the nation’s longest active win streak, Hofstra has also won seven straight road games overall, which ranks as the longest active road win streak. The win streak is the second-longest in the program’s NCAA Division I history (since 1966-67) and the third-longest overall. It is the longest since an 18-game streak in 2000-01. It is also tied for the second-longest in the history of the CAA as George Mason (2010-11) and Navy (1985-86) both had 16-game streaks and Drexel holds the conference record with a 19-game win streak in 2011-12.

Senior Justin Wright-Foreman leads Hofstra with 26 points per game this season. Junior Eli Pemberton is second on the squad with 15.8 per outing and senior Desure Buie has posted 9.6 points per contest as well as leading the Pride with 5.2 assists per game. Graduate student Jacquil Taylor is averaging 7.2 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game.

Northeastern has a 12-9 overall record and a 6-3 CAA mark following a 78-68 victory over James Madison this past Saturday. Jordan Roland had 29 points, including eight three-pointers, and Vasa Pusica posted 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for the Huskies. Three players average double figures for Northeastern with Pusica leading with 16 points per game and Roland (15.3) and Donnell Gresham (10.0) also in double digits.

Saturday’s game will mark the 45th between Hofstra and Northeastern with the Pride holding a narrow 23-21 lead in the all-time meetings courtesy of wins in six of the last seven meetings in the series. Each team won on the opponent’s home court last season with Hofstra earning a 71-70 victory in Boston and the Huskies returning the favor with an 81-67 win in Hempstead. The first-ever meeting occurred during the 1949-50 season with the Huskies earning a close 55-53 victory. Hofstra captured the first meeting this season, 75-72, as Wright-Foreman drained a 34-foot shot at the buzzer to give the Pride the last second victory. The shot earned Wright-Foreman the #2 Top Play on ESPN’s SportsCenter that evening.
