The Las Vegas Aces began their matchup against the New York Liberty on a 22-3 run, giving themselves a solid cushion as they looked to lock up a sweep of the season series. The Liberty (7-25) battled back to cut the deficit to single digits, but the Aces (14-17) pulled away once more, securing a 85-72 victory at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Wednesday night.

The shorthanded Liberty were down to just eight active players once again, although this time they were without leading scorer Tina Charles for the first time this season. It marked just the ninth regular season matchup that the veteran has missed in her career.

Kia Nurse and Bria Hartley helped make up for lost production, as they co-led the Liberty with 14 points apiece. The duo combined to shoot an even 50 percent from the field, with each hitting a pair of threes.

Sugar Rodgers notched her first career double-double, finishing with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Brittany Boyd was the fourth Liberty player to score in double figures, as the floor general registered 10 points, along with six assists and four rebounds.

Kiah Stokes finished with 11 rebounds, including four on the offensive end. She has now grabbed double-digit boards in three of the last four games. The center contributed three assists and a pair of rejections to the Liberty cause as well.

With the loss, the Liberty’s current skid has reached 11 games. They stay out west for their next matchup; they take on the Seattle Storm on Friday night. Tipoff is set for 10:00 p.m. (ET) at KeyArena.
