New York City FC earns 2-1 victory over Toronto FC

Jo Inge Berget scored two goals to help lead New York City FC to a huge 2-1 victory over Toronto FC in Major League Soccer action at Yankee Stadium. New Head Coach Domènec Torrent got his first victory at the helm of the club and the team remains perfect when playing at home.

With a raucous 23,930 fans rocking the stadium, the boys in blue used a solid second half of play to earn the victory today. Toronto City FC saw the first goal of the match as Victor Vasquez recorded a goal at the 37′ lifting one over the onrushing NYCFC Keeper Sean Johnson.

Berget had a beauty in the 51′ recording a backheeled goal and over the line. The Forward netted his second goal of the game at the 68′. The Norwegian player was impressive throughout the match attacking the net and making multiple opportunities for New York City FC.

It was needed as Captain David Villa limped out of the game with an injury during the match today. Berget was not the only one who impressed as NYCFC saw opportunities from Alex Ring, Maxi Moralez, Sebastian Ibeagha, Anton Tinnerholm and Jesus Medina all saw shots go on target. As for Toronto FC they had two chances create by Auro and Sebastian Giovinco.

  • City stayed undefeated at home through eight games (W7 D1)

NYCFC are next in action on Saturday on the road at Chicago Fire and we return home July 8 for the Second Edition of the Hudson River Derby versus the New York Red Bulls.
