The St. John’s Men’s Basketball team improved to a 2-0 record with a 77-61 victory over Binghamton University on 11/14/16 at Carnesecca Arena.

Leading the way for the Red Storm was the Freshman Duo of Shamorie Ponds and Marcus LoVett.  Ponds registered his first career double-double for St. John’s, while LoVett tallied a game-high 23 points against Binghamton.

As a team, the Red Storm made 11 of its 26 attempts from downtown. Combined with their 11-of-22 showing from deep in the season-opener against Bethune-Cookman, the Johnnies have sank 11 or more three-pointers in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2009-10 season, when St. John’s made 11 against Cornell on Dec. 21 before draining 13 against Bryant on Dec. 23.

The Red Storm also saw contributions from Yankuba Sima and Bashir Ahmed, who had eight points and five rebounds each. Tariq Owens added seven rebounds. On the defensive side of the court Kassoum Yakwe, the BIG EAST’s leading shot blocker last season, swatted five Binghamton shots and grabbed four rebounds.

St. John’s will be in for an interesting test now, as the team will go on the road to take on a very tough Minnesota team on Friday, November 18 at 9:00 pm. The Red Storm will return home on Tuesday, December 29 as they host Delaware State in a game that is set for 6:30 pm.
