PHOTO GALLERY and POSTGAME Video: St. John’s MBB v Georgetown

St. John’s University (7-11,  0-5 BE) could not overcome a sharpshooting Georgetown (11-6, 4-1) in the 93-73 loss in BIG EAST action at Madison Square Garden.

The one thing that can be said about this group is that so far they are not giving up, and not letting this losing stretch get to them as they are scratching and clawing in every contest they are in.

It is getting close according to those around the program, and there have been a few games, including the one against Marquette and Xavier that could have gone differently.

At the end of the day though it is just a matter of time and this very young group getting more experience.

The Red Storm saw four players in double-figure scoring, led by Ron Mvouika who had a team-high 15 points. Amar Alibegovic added 12 points, while Federico Mussini recorded 11-points. Durand Johnson rounded out all scoring with his 10 points.

Georgetown shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the floor and made 27-of-33 free throws (81.8 percent). Leading the way for the Hoyas was D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera who had a game-high 33 points.

St. John’s returns to action on Saturday when the Red Storm visits No. 23/23 Butler at noon airing on FS1.  The Red Storm will return to Madison Square Garden on January 23 when they take on Marquette in an 8 pm game.
