Once again the Force Was Strong with the Brooklyn Cyclones, who had their yearly Star Wars night on July 11 against the Aberdeen IronBirds in New York-Penn League Action at MCU Park.

The Cyclones had a strong outing from starting pitcher Kevin Canelon (2-1) who went 6.1 innings, sitting Four batter, giving up two hits, one homer and one run in the team’s 2-1 victory on Saturday evening.

For Brooklyn the offense was led by Pedro Perez, who had a two-run single in the Bottom of the Second Inning that gave the home team an early 2-0 lead. Brandon Brosher had a two hit game, while Alfredo Reyes and Vinny Siena both recorded hits to all round out the Cyclones offense.

Aberdeen struck in the Top of the Fourth, when Drew Turbin hit a solo shot on a 1-0 pitch. Aside from that the Cyclones young pitching once again came up big time, keeping the IronBirds off the scoreboard for the rest of the game.

Carlos Valdez came on in the seventh to get the final two outs before tossing a scoreless eighth. Alex Palsha nailed down the game with a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save of the season.  For Palsha the young reliever has yet to give up a run this season, has grown to become more comfortable closing out games as the season has gone along.

The Cyclones have now improved their record to 15-6, while still currently sitting at the top of the McNamara Division. These two teams will meet in Game Two on Sunday, as it will be Minion Night at MCU Park. Fans in attendance can enjoy special guest appearances from the minions themselves and watch them kick off the night throwing the game’s first pitch

Starting in Game Two for Brooklyn will be Tyler Badamo (1-1) who takes on Aberdeen lefty Travis Seabrooke (1-1). The action between the Cyclones and IronBirds is set for 5:00 p.m.
