St. John’s senior Sir’Dominic Pointer was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fifth week in a row on Monday. The 6-foot-6 swingman averaged 19.0 points shooting 53.8 percent (14-of-26) from the field to go with 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per contest last week. Pointer’s five consecutive honor roll selections is the longest streak in the conference this season.

Pointer went for his seventh double-double on Saturday to lift St. John’s (18-9, 7-7) to an 85-72 victory over Seton Hall before a capacity crowd at Carnesecca Arena. He scored 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting and had 10 boards. Pointer, the BIG EAST’s blocks leader in conference games with a 2.9 average, swatted three shots against the Pirates. His stat line also featured three assists and two steals.

The Detroit native narrowly missed a double-double earlier in the week with 16 points and eight rebounds at Georgetown on Tuesday. Pointer sank 4-of-5 free-throws against the Hoyas and shot 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the line over the two game stretch.

Pointer has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll six times in the last nine weeks. Over the last 10 games, Pointer has led the Red Storm with a 17.5 scoring average, 8.6 rebounds, 3.4 blocks and 1.7 steals. He has also handed out 2.7 assists per game while shooting 81.4 percent (35-of-43) at the free-throw line and 53.9 percent (69-of-129) from the field. His seven double-doubles are the second most in the BIG EAST.

Pointer ranks in the top-15 of the BIG EAST in 10 statistical categories this season. He is 10th in scoring (13.4 ppg), fourth in rebounding (7.5 rpg), sixth in field goal shooting percentage (53.6 pct), third in steals (2.0 spg) and third in blocks (2.4 bpg). He enters Monday’s contest with Xavier 11 points shy of becoming the 50th player in program history to record 1,000 career points.

St. John’s tips off with Xavier tonight at Madison Square Garden, with the tip-off set for 8 p.m. on FOX Sports 1. The Red Storm radio broadcast will air on 970 AM WNYM.
