The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will open the month of February with a road tilt at Delaware on Wednesday as the Pride look to pick up win no. 15 against the Blue Hens.
Tip-off from the Bob Carpenter Center is 7 p.m. Live Video will be offered via BlueHens.com and Pride Productions will have live audio. The live audio broadcast, with Julian Coltre and Andrew Fertitta, will also be available on WRHU (88.7 FM) and the pregame show will start at 6:45 p.m.
Hofstra (14-9, 5-5 CAA) is coming off an 86-72 loss at home to Towson on Saturday. The Pride held a one-point halftime advantage but the Tigers almost immediately took the lead to start the second stanza and didn’t look back in posting the victory.
The loss was the Pride’s third straight, its longest of the season, and Hofstra will look to end the skid when it heads to Newark, DE to face the Blue Hens on Wednesday.
Junior guard Juan’ya Green posted a game-high 25 points and added five assists and three steals against Towson. He was joined in double figures by graduate guard Dion Nesmith (13 points) and junior forward Ameen Tanksley (10 points).
This will mark the second of the two meetings this season with Delaware as the Pride earned a 71-58 victory over the Blue Hens back on January 5 at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
In the first meeting against Delaware, freshman forward Rokas Gustys had an outstanding game with 11 points and 16 rebounds for his first career double-double, while Green (16 pts), Tanksley (15 pts) and sophomore guard Brian Bernardi (13 pts) also contributed well on the offensive end.
With his strong game against Towson, Green nearly tied up the Hofstra scoring lead as both he and Tanksley are averaging 17.5 points per game, although Tanksley has scored 403 points to Green’s 402 this season. Green also has 145 assists in 2014-15 to lead the Pride, while Tanksley is second with 6.2 caroms per game. Green also leads Hofstra with 38 steals this year.
Delaware is 5-16 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The Blue Hens defeated Charleston, 71-68, in their last game on Saturday as they overcame a narrow four-point halftime deficit.
Kyle Anderson leads the team with 15.1 points per game, while Kory Holden is second with 12.9 and has dished out a team-best 97 assists this season. Marvin King-Davis is fourth on the team in scoring at 10.5 points and leads the squad with five rebounds per outing.
Hofstra is 49-31 all-time against Delaware. The teams first met during the 1954-55 campaign with Hofstra capturing a 115-68 victory over Delaware.
