The St. John’s men’s basketball team returns to Madison Square Garden on Saturday to host Providence (16-5, 6-2) in a nationally televised contest on FOX at noon. Gus Johnson and Jim Jackson will call the action from “The World’s Most Famous Arena”. St. John’s radio broadcast with John Minko and Brandon Tierney will air on 570 AM (WMCA).
St. John’s (13-7, 2-5) returns to The Garden where it has won six of its last eight BIG EAST contests dating back to last season. The Red Storm picked up its most-recent conference victory on Jan. 21 edging Marquette, 60-57, behind Sir’Dominic Pointer’s 15 points (7-of-13 FG), 12 rebounds, six assists, six blocks and two steals. Pointer has recorded double-doubles in the last three contests and is coming off a 13-point, 10-rebound and six-assist performance at Creighton on Wednesday.
D’Angelo Harrison led St. John’s with 18 points in the 77-74 setback to the Bluejays. He hit four 3-pointers and nearly sent the game to overtime with a heave at the buzzer that bounced off the back rim. Harrison enters Saturday’s contest with the Friars within reach of becoming the third 2,000-point scorer in program history. He stands 18 points shy of the career milestone.

- D’Angelo Harrison is 18 points shy of joining the program’s 2,000-point club as he looks to become the third St. John’s player to reach the milestone (Chris Mullin – 2,440 & Malik Sealy – 2,402). The senior guard has scored double-figures in nine straight games and 19 times in 20 contests this season. Harrison became the 38th player in BIG EAST history to reach the 1,000-point plateau on Wednesday when he scored a team-high 18 points at Creighton. In 58 career BIG EAST appearances Harrison has 1,007 points averaging 17.4 per game in conference play.
- Sir’Dominic Pointer has recorded double-doubles in the last three contests. During this stretch, the senior from Detroit leads the team in nearly every statistical category averaging 16.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.7 steals and he boasts a 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.
- St. John’s had one of its best offensive games of the season in an 83-70 win earlier this month at Providence (Jan. 14). The Red Storm shot 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the floor, its second-highest mark of the season, and shot a season-best 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from long range. The 83-point total also marked the second-highest output of the season for the Red Storm.
- The Red Storm has averaged just 10.5 turnovers per game this season, a league-low and a total that ranks 18th in the nation. St. John’s has committed fewer than 10 turnovers in seven games this season, including a season-low seven miscues against both Butler (Jan. 3) and NJIT (Nov. 14).
- The Red Storm has posted an 8-2 record this season when shooting at least 45.0 percent from the floor, including a 3-0 mark when shooting at least 50.0 percent. St. John’s is shooting 44.2 percent from the floor and has posted a 12-1 record when shooting better than its opposition.

- St. John’s is 59-45 all-time versus Providence and has a 33-29 record against the Friars as members of the BIG EAST Conference. Providence is St. John’s second most frequently played opponent. This is the 105th meeting between the programs.
- The Red Storm and Friars meet for the second time in 18 days. St. John’s has won four of its last six regular-season contests against Providence.
