Fordham MBB Hosts Rhode Island on Wednesday

The Fordham University Rams continue their 2014-2015 season, the 112th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, and continue their Atlantic 10 season by hosting the University of Rhode Island Rams in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday, January 28, at 7:00 p.m.

The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network and also broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and http://www.wfuvsports.org and can be followed live via livestats. Follow the links above.

Fordham enters the game with a 5-12 overall record, 0-6 in the Atlantic 10, following a 79-59 league loss to George Washington in the Rose Hill Gym last Thursday. Rhode Island enters the game with a 13-5 overall record, 5-2 in the conference, after a 53-48 A-10 win over St. Bonaventure in Kingston on Sunday.

Wednesday night’s contest will be the 62nd meeting between Fordham and Rhode Island on the hardwood with Rhode Island leading the all-time series, which started in the 1941-42 season, 36-25. Rhode Island took this year’s first meeting, 68-65, on January 7 in Kingston as E.C. Matthews scored 24 points for Rhode Island while Eric Paschall had 19 for Fordham.

* Fordham freshmen Eric Paschall and Chris Sengfelder are the only set of freshman teammates to be averaging more than 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Paschall is fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with a 16.9 ppg average while also pulling down 5.8 rpg, while Sengfelder is averaging 10.7 ppg and 6.2 rpg. The only other freshman combo that was averaging 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg were Purdue’s Isaac Hass and Vince Edwards but Hayes is now averaging 9.5 ppg and 4.4 rpg while Edwards is averaging 9.8 ppg and 5.2 rpg.

* The 2014-2015 Fordham men’s basketball squad is becoming adept at taking away the ball. Through games of January 25, the Rams are second in the Atlantic 10, averaging 7.1 steals/game, including a season-high eleven in the South Carolina State game on Dec. 31. Junior Mandell Thomas leads the Rams with 38 steals, ranking second in the conference (2.2/game).

* Through games of January 25, the Fordham Rams have the Atlantic 10’s fifth leading scorer, and top freshman scorer, in freshman guard Eric Paschall (16.9 ppg) while Mandell Thomas is second in the conference in steals (2.2/game). The Rams also have the fourth leading rebounder in junior forward Ryan Rhoomes (8.6 rpg) while Antwoine Anderson is eighth in assists/game (3.5) and Rhoomes is seventh in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.4/game.
