The No. 24 St. John’s Men’s Basketball team (8-1) were able to hold off a good Fordham University team (3-5) in a 74-53 victory in the finale of the Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden.

Fordham put up a good fight getting an early lead in the First Half of play, but St. John’s came storming back to regain the lead and never looked back in the victory.

Leading the way for the Red Storm was Sophomore Guard Rysheed Jordan (Philadelphia, Pa.) who matched a career-high with 24 points, a total he previously reached against Georgetown on Feb. 16, 2014. The performance marked the third-career 20-point game for Jordan, who also matched a career-high with three 3-pointers.

Senior Guard D’Angelo Harrison (Missouri City, Texas) moved into sole possession of sixth place on the all-time St. John’s scoring chart with a 22-point effort. Harrison, who has scored at least 20 points in four games this season, now has 1,778 points in his career. Harrison also made 2-of-5 3-pointers to record his third-straight multi-trey performance and extend his school-record total to 218.

St. John’s finished with 10 steals, marking the third time this season that the squad has had at least 10 steals in a contest, while also matching a season-high by forcing 20 turnovers. St. John’s previously forced Minnesota into 20 miscues on Nov. 26.

Fordham had several impressive performances considering the Rams feature a team that features just three players in double-figure scoring.

Leading the way for the Rams was Freshman Guard Eric Paschall (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) who finished the game with 14 points, and Eight Boards. Junior Guard Mandell Thomas (Rochester, N.Y.) and Freshman Forward Chris Sengfelder (Leverkusen, Germany) both finished the game with 11 points each.

St. John’s will next be in action on December 19 when they host Saint Mary’s  at Carnesecca Arena, with the tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. Fordham will next be in action on December 22 when they head into the Battle of the Bronx versus local-area rival Manhattan College at the Barclays Center, tip-off for that game scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
