After what was a six game road trip for the Manhattan College Men’s Basketball team ( 2-5, 1-1) the Jaspers were able to earn a 60-38 victory at home over Marist (1-7, 0-2) in the home and conference opener for the reigning 2014 MAAC Champions.
For Manhattan who also saw everyone healthy, the team used the combination of great team defensive play along with a strong shooting performance to get the 1,350 in attendance at Draddy Gym rocking.
Leading the way for the Jaspers was Senior Emmy Andujar (Bronx, N.Y.) who was two assists short of the program’s first ever triple-double on Sunday. Andujar finished with 15 points and 15 boards along with a career-high eight assists.
Sophomore Rich Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was a source of positive energy and play for the team, finishing with 13 points in his first start of the season.
The big story for the team overall was the play of the defense, which was able to hold Marist to a 19.5 percent (8-for-41) shooting, including 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from deep, while forcing 19 miscues that led to a 21-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
Manhattan has now won six of their last seven games against Marist, while also winning four-straight and 13-of-14 against the Red Foxes at Draddy Gymnasium dating back to the 2001-2002 season.
The Jaspers will have an opportunity to play Rutgers at Madison Square Garden on December 14 before returning back to Draddy Gym on December 20 to take on Morgan State for a 7:00 p.m. game.
