Catching up with the New York Cosmos

The New York Cosmos have been preparing for an away match against the Indy Eleven, while the practices have been going the franchise has made two exciting announcements which fans of the Cosmos Country can see here.

It was announced on Wednesday the launch of “Cosmos Futsal” the first-ever Manhattan-based soccer school in partnership with the World Class Learning Academy, the private elementary school located in New York’s East Village. Taught by players and coaching staff of the New York Cosmos, the 2013 North American Soccer League (NASL) Champions, registration for Cosmos Futsal is currently open and available to all kids in Kindergarten through 6th Grade.

“The New York Cosmos are a New York City team born and raised so we’re excited to partner with the World Class Learning Academy to help develop the next generation of soccer players in the U.S., especially those from this great city,” said Erik Stover, chief operating officer for the New York Cosmos.

Based at the World Class Learning Academy on 44 East 2nd Street in Manhattan’s East Village, Cosmos Futsal will offer three hour-long sessions as well as weekend pick-up games for 10 weeks this fall. 10 sessions, taught by players and coaches, will cost $280 and are open to the public. The franchise also announced on Wednesday that Midfielder Macros Senna will join a team of Elite Soccer players to play in a Match for Peace that will be held on September 1.

Senna will be join by former Argentine national team captain Javier Zanetti, along with Argentine soccer legends Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona are expected to play at Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It will be a celebrity packed match which is being backed by Pope Francis and sponsored by the Pupi Foundation, a Buenos Aires-based charity founded by Zanetti.

Marcos is expected to join the rest of the team when they take on Indy Eleven in an important road match for the team on August 30, with the kick-off for that match set for 7:30 p.m.
