Cosmos Preview: Match V Ottawa Fury FC

After dropping the 2014 Fall Season Opener to the San Antonio Scorpions on July 12, the New York Cosmos (0-1-0) are looking for redemption on the road against the Ottawa Fury FC (0-0-1) in North American Soccer League Action on Sunday July 20.

Not the start they were hoping for:

It certainly was not the start the New York Cosmos had hoped for in the 3-1 loss to the Scorpions on July 12. Defender Hunter Freeman who earned the Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match for his goal in the 57th minute, while also recording five overall shots (three of them on goal).

Last season after the Cosmos lost to San Antonio the team was able to find what was needed to eventually earn the 2013 North American Soccer League Championship, the team hopes that will be the case yet again, but will have a tough road match as they prepared for what will be a physical and intense match on Sunday.

Last time they met:

The New York Cosmos were able to defeat the Ottawa Fury FC by a final of 1-0 on July 8 to conclude the 2014 North American Soccer League Spring season. On that day the team retired Giorgio Chinaglia’s No. 9, while having Italian Attacker Alessandro Noselli scored the game-winner for the team.

What to Watch For:

Midfield will continue to be a key for the Cosmos, especially in the match versus the Ottawa Fury FC. Danny Szetela and Joseph Nane will be two huge pieces to getting that part of the game going for New York. Also look for  Hans Denissen to potentially get more time on the pitch, as the striker recorded his first minutes against San Antonio and will be an impact player for the team throughout the rest of the season.

Welcome Back:

Defender Jimmy Ockford is back after sitting out Saturday with a concussion, while fellow d-man Roversio is also set to return to the team for the match on Sunday.
