NOTES and VIDEO: New York Lizards v Charlotte Hounds 6/21/14

Here are some notes and a video interview for all of our New York Lizards fans as the guys are getting ready to take on the Charlotte Hounds in Major League Lacrosse Action on 6/21/14.

This is a big game for the guys who if they hope to say alive in the MLL Playoff hunt they need to get out of the current cluster of teams who are currently at a 3-4 record, one of those teams happen to be Charlotte so a victory today can help the team.

Notes to get fans ready for the big game:

GK Drew Adams approaches 800th save:

Heading into Saturday’s game, goalie Drew Adams has made 795 career saves. With just 5 more saves, he will make the 800th of his career.

NCAA Points Leaders Collide:

The nation’s top two all- time leading point scorers in collegiate lacrosse will be going head to head this weekend. Rob Pannell out of Cornell and Matt Danowski out of Duke will face each other in only their second meeting; thus far in the season Pannell ranks 4th in the league with 25 points, whereas Danowski is tied at 28th with 12.

Family Reunion:

In Major League Lacrosse, there are multiple family units that compete with and against each other. The Lizards have Steve DeNapoli (M) going up against little cousin and midfielder, Tom DeNapoli. Tom is a rookie out of Towson, while Steve is in his fourth season in the MLL.

Rookies Reunite:

2014 Loyola graduates Pat Laconi, Justin, Ward, and Joe Fletcher will meet up again after all just being drafted out of Loyola. The three were co- Captains at Loyola in Maryland, and all earned Joe Fletcher, the first round draft pick out of Loyola, has already made an impact on the field in his first games with the Lizards. Fletcher has forced turnovers and picked up ground balls. The three were all All-Patriot League First Team players, Scholar All-Americans, and led the Greyhounds to a 15-2 record and six- week stay at No. 1 in the nation this season.

Lizards officially lead MLL in number of players on Team USA:

With Joe Fletcher and Greg Gurenlian officially named to the Lizard’s roster, New York leads Major League Lacrosse in the number of players named to the Team USA 30-man roster with nine players. Team USA will take on Team Canada in the first game of the FIL World Championships on Thursday, July 10 at 7 PM MST. Lizards’ players representing Team USA include: Drew Adams (G), Ned Crotty (A/M), Joe Fletcher (D), Kyle Hartzell (LSM), Brian Karalunas (D), JoJo Marasco (M), Rob Pannell (A), Max Seibald (M), Greg Gurenlian (FO).

League stat leaders:

  • –  Points: Rob Pannell 4th in the League with 25 points
  • –  Goals: Rob Pannell is tied with Stephen Berger (BOS), Casey Powell(FLA), and Logan Schuss (OH)at 6th in the League with 15 goals; Max Seibald is tied with Paul Rabil (BOS), and Will Manny (BOS) for 14th in the League with 12 goals
  • –  Assists: Rob Pannell is 7th in the League with 10 assists
  • –  Shot Percentage: Al Maione is tied with Casey Powell (FLA), Jordan Wolf (ROC), Thomas DeNapoli (CHA), Brodie Merrill (BOS), and Domenic Sebastiani at 5th in the League, shooting 50% on 12 shots

Fans had better act quickly if they want tickets for the game against the Hounds on Saturday as they are moving quickly; as a reminder the first 1,00 fans through the gates will get a limited edition six-pack of player cards featuring Max Seibald, Drew Adams, Brian Karalunas, Matt Striebel, Ned Crotty and Steve DeNapoli.

Face-Off between the Lizards and Hounds is set for 7:00 p.m. With the game to be played at Hofstra University Shuart Stadium. In case if you can’t make it don’t fear the game will be televised on the MSG Plus network live and streamed online through ESPN 3.
