Ducks Walk Off Winners While Welcoming Sixth Millionth Fan

The Long Island Ducks (18-14) had a milestone night in the 6-5 walk-off victory over the Somerset Patriots (21-13) in Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Action on Friday Night

Long Island started off the night by welcoming the Sixth Millionth fan to Bethpage Ballpark, as Ted Nellis of East Northport and his family helped the team become the first in ALPB to reach the historic record. Long Island was able to reach this marker despite having begun play in the league’s third year of existence (2000). Along with being the league’s all-time leader in attendance, the Ducks also have the most sellout crowds in league history (628) and have led the league in attendance a record 12 times.

“Reaching the 6 million fan mark in our 15th Anniversary Season reflects the continued passion and dedication shown by our fans since Day One,” says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. “Reaching this milestone is a testament to a fan base that has helped the Ducks become one of the most successful minor league baseball teams in the country. We are appreciative to all 6 million fans and look forward to many more.”

The Ducks would proceed to battle against the current first ranked team in the Liberty Division in the Somerset Patriots, as the guys were able to record the second walk-off victory of the season thanks to the bats and a fine ninth inning pitching performance by Josh Lansford (2-1) earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Highlighting the offense was Cody Puckett who led the way with three hits, while Fehlandt Lentini and Randy Ruiz each added two.

The Ducks and Patriots continue their three-game set on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Pyrotecnico Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by NYIT. Long Island starter  Right-hander Fernando Hernandez will take the mound to take on Patriots righty Gary Moran.

Prior to the Game One Long Island Ducks President and General Manager Michael Pfaff announced the team had signed and activated former St. Louis Cardinals prospect Pitcher  David Kopp to the team.
