Isles Donovan and Nelson named to World Championships USA National Team

USA Hockey announced today that New York Islanders defenseman Matt Donovan and forward Brock Nelson have been selected to the U.S. Men’s National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championships from May 925 in Mink, Belarus.

Donovan, 23, scored 16 points (two goals, 14 assists) in 52 games during his rookie season with the Islanders. The Edmond, OK, native added 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League, ranking sixth on the team in scoring despite playing just 21 games. Donovan’s previous international experience includes playing on the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team that won the gold medal.

Nelson, 22, scored 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists) in 72 games as a rookie with the Islanders. The Warroad, MN, native finished fifth on the team in goals and sixth in points. On the international stage, Nelson played on the 2011 U.S. National Junior Team that won the bronze medal.
