“I’m excited to come back to New York next season,” Maurer said. “Last year was great to be a part of and we have such a good group of guys that I’m sure 2014 will be another special year. April 13 can’t come soon enough.”

Maurer, 25, provided quality depth last season behind starting goalkeeper Kyle Reynish. He also started the final game of the regular season against Atlanta in Week 14 where he recorded a shutout and was named to the NASL Team of the Week.

Murphy, 27,  who also got a contract extension made three appearances for the Cosmos in 2013 in the central midfield position. Prior to signing with the Cosmos last season, Murphy was the captain for the Cosmos U-23 squad that participated in the 2011 Premier Development League. He played four years at the University of Virginia before signing with DC United of MLS. While with DC, he was a member of the squad that won the 2008 U.S. Open Cup. In 2009, Murphy moved to Germany’s VFL Osnabrück where he played for two seasons.
