Cosmos Ink Two Forwards to the Team

The New York Cosmos announced on Thursday that they have inked to forwards for the roster for the upcoming season, as Peri Marosevic and Henry Lopez have agreed to deals after impressing the staff on Long Island during the team’s inaugural combine, which featured over 200 participants.

“The quality at the combine was impressive and these players showed very well over the weekend,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “They are clearly comfortable with the ball at their feet and they each have decent experience for their ages. These two strengthen us up front and give us different options.”

Marosevic, 23, recently played for Croatia’s Junak Sinj, after a standout career at the University of Michigan. Peri who was drafted fifth overall by FC Dallas in the 2009 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, making four appearances with the team between 2009 and 2011.

“Peri has tremendous talent on the field and a lot of potential,” Savarese said. “He’s played with very high competition and we recognize that he is determined to get back to that level. After watching him perform like he did at the combine, I can see he’s ready to take that step.”

Henry Lopez, 20, is Guatemalan striker who most recently seen action for the Tigres de la UANL in Mexico. Lopez has played for his country six times since debuting in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He scored the winning goal for the Guatemala U-20 national team, as they were able to knock of the US team at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in 2011.

“Henry has some really wonderful potential,” Savarese said. “He’s a very dynamic player who’s capable of scoring goals.”

Over 500 people applied online for the Cosmos Combine and more than 200 were officially invited to attend.
