Hafner and Yankees agree to one-year deal

The New York Yankees announced on Friday that they have finalized a one-year contract with free-agent designated hitter Travis Hafner, who is expected to fill the slot of DH for the Bombers in the 2013 season.

Hafner, 35, batted .228 with 12 homers and 34 RBIs in 64 games for the Indians last season. Travis recorded 201 homers over 11 Major League seasons.

New York has been looking for a right-handed hitter who can also play some outfielder. It is expected for Hafner would be used primarily against right-handed starters.

To make room on the 40-man roster the Bombers have designated outfielder Russ Canzier for assignment.
