Both the Red Storm and the Panthers were wearing green ribbons to honor those fallen after the Sandy Hook tragedy. The teams were also wearing ‘We Back Pat’ shirts to help raise awareness for legendary Tennessee coach Pat Summitt.

Summitt, who has been battling with early onset dementia, started the foundation to help raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease.

Getting back to the action on the floor, St. John’s was able to go to a 3-0 record thanks to double-digit scoring from Shenneika Smith (14 points) and Aliyyah Handford (11 points). The ladies had contributions from a good portion of their roster, which will be key for the team during the course of the year.

The St. John’s women’s basketball team will be in action next on Wednesday, when they take on BIG EAST Rival Syracuse on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 11:30 a.m. with the game set to air on ESPN 3.
