1495 Sports Photo Gallery and Recap: Day Two of the LIU Turkey Classic

Day Two of the LIU Turkey Classic was an exciting one for all women’s hoops fans, as four teams left their all on the court of the Wellness Center at LIU Brooklyn.

In Game One the Blackbirds (1-3) entered into halftime with a lead, to only watch it slip away thanks to a fiesty University of Missouri-Kansas City (3-4) team. UMKC cashed in on second chance points (10) and points off turnovers (15)  to gain a hard earned victory.

The Kangaroos had three players in double-digit scoring as senior forward Kim Nezianya (Carrollton, Texas) led the way with 17 points. Following were freshman guard Kelsey Barnwell (Kansas, Ohio) and  sophomore guard Lexis Hardiek (Hill City, Kan.) who both had 16 points each.

Having a career day for LIU Brooklyn was senior guard Krystal Wells (Douglasville, Ga.) who had a high of 26 points for the Blackbirds. Wells drained home huge three-point shots for the Blackbirds late in the second half, but it wouldn’t be enough to help regain the lead. Sophomore forward Honor Duvall (Lawton, Ohio) followed with  12 points.

Drexel University (4-1) soared to the LIU Turkey Classic Championship with a 51-33 victory over Colgate University (2-3) in the finale of the Classic.

Senior guard/forward Hollie Mershon (Malvern, Pa.) led all Dragons scoring with 18 points, followed by classmate Nicki Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) who had 12 points.
