This edition is from the 1-0 New York Islanders victory over the New Jersey Devils on 3/4/12. Kyle Okposo was the lone goal scorer, as the story was about keeper Anders Nilsson. Nilsson became the first cager in the team’s history to record his first NHL victory via a shutout.
Here are quotes from Anders Nilsson after his Islestone:
“Today all of the guys on the ice did a great job for me,” said Nilsson after the victory. “They blocked a lot of shots, and they made it really easy for me to do my job.” On if he is becoming more comfortable playing the game Nilsson had this to say, “I am feeling more and more comfortable with every game. Now I don’t have to think or anything out there, I can just go out and play.”
Nilsson had this to say on if he had any nerves during the game:
“Yeah you are always a little bit nervous before a game, but I think that is how it should be at least for a little. I felt more and more comfortable as the game went on, and I saw all the guys out there step it up for me, blocking shots and made it easier for me to play out there.”
Here are quotes from Kyle Okposo after the game:
“I thought we played really well, defensively we blocked a fair amount of shots and we didn’t give up a lot of second and third chances,” Okposo said on the total team effort. On his play and the second and third effort the winger had this to say, “I just tried to be strong tonight, I want to get back to wanting the puck –I want to make plays and I want the puck on my stick and today it showed.”
On the back-to-back victories against the Bruins and Devils, Okposo had this to say:
“These are four huge points for us, in here we know what we got, and we know that we can compete with anyone in the league.”
