Sabathia agrees to deal with Yankees

One part of the New York Yankees rotation was set for the 2012 season, as ace-lefty C.C. Sabathia agreed to a contract extension worth $25 million. Coupled with the four years, $92 million remaining on the deal, C.C. will remain in the Bronx through 2016.

The 31-year-old could have chosen to become a free-agent, instead returning to a place that has become a second home to the starter. Sabathia has played three seasons with the Yankees, going a 59-23 record with a 3.18 ERA.

Over the span of three seasons, C.C. has won at least 19 games each season, becoming the first Major Leaguer with three straight 19-win seasons since Randy Johnson (2000-02) and the fourth Bomber in franchise history to accomplish the feat.

Sabathia joins Vic Raschi (four straight, 1948-51), Red Ruffing (4, 1936-39) and Jack Chesboro (4, 1903-06) in accomplishing the feat. C.C. is also a five-time All-Star, while also winning the Cy Young Award in 2007.
