Mets offseason news and notes: 10/22/11

The New York Mets announced on Friday that due to a contract formality, the team has to part ways with reliever Ryota Igarashi. It was also announced that the team outrighted first baseman Valentino Pascucci and relievers Dale Thayer and Manny Alvarez to Triple-A Buffalo, removing them from the 40-man roster.

It was also announced on the Mets official team page that shortstop Jose Reyes is a finalist for the National League Comeback Player of the Year award in the 2011 Players Choice Awards.

There still hasn’t been any news or updates on if the Mets are going to resign the free agent to-be. The speedy shortstop finished with a .337 average with 39 stolen bases and 101 runs scored in the season-missing time with thyroid imbalance issues along with oblique issues.

Reyes became the first batting champion in the history of the Mets franchise, needs to beat out Cardinals outfielder Lance Berkman for the honor. The Players Choice Awards have been presented annual since 1992, honoring the outstanding player, rookie, pitcher and comeback player in each league.
