Curtis is ‘Grand’ in giving endeavors

One of the beautiful things about the holiday season, is that is also the time for giving back to others in need. The New York Yankees and their players have always taken great pride in giving back to their community in the South Bronx.

Embodying that spirit was Bombers outfielder Curtis Granderson, who helped open a renovated schoolyard on Monday. The Yankees slugger also slugged seven Wiffle ball homers in a home-run derby contest to raise $1,500 for the school, as Curtis teamed up with the American Dairy Association to help raise the funds.

Granderson has been a busy bee for the Bombers, as the outfielder has also represented the team in a tour of Taiwan in the countries 2011 All-Star Series. Curtis, who was one of the MVP’s of the Yankees’ this season, finished fourth in the balloting for the American League MVP award.

Along with the American Dairy Association, the Yankees are also giving funds to the renovation of P.S. 19X’s schoolyard, in the hopes of promoting a healthy lifestyle. The message is to get the future generations to choose nutritious food choices, while also choosing exercise for a better living.
