With three coaches all leaving for other positions, the New York Mets needed to fill a void in Terry Collins’ on-field staff in the 2012 season. The Metropolitans announced on their official site, that former A’s manager Bob Geren as bench coach in the up-and-coming season.
Geren beat out a field including former Nationals manager Jim Riggleman for the position. The career arc for Geren started in the 1990’s, when he began his career as a Minor League manager in the Red Sox organization. Eventually Bob moved to the A’s in their Minor League system, and worked his way up the ladder.
In four-and a-half years managing the Athletics, Geren posted a 334-376 record. Now the Mets need to fill their first-base coaching position.
It was also announced that rookie-sensation Dillon Gee is going to represent the Mets, in the 2011 Taiwan All-Star Series. He along with Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson and Miguel Cabrera will play a series of games against Chinese Taipei national team in three different cities.
