The New York Islanders are a team that is always giving back to the community, as there has been a great history of giving back to the residents of Long Island.
The Isles continue that tradition with a pre-season blood drive this Saturday. The organization is teaming up with the American Red Cross at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The drive will be from 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. as the Islanders will take on the New Jersey Devils, for the first pre-season hockey action.
There has been a cancellation of approximately 145 American Red Cross blood drives-due to Hurricane Irene-which has resulted in a shortfall of 4,700 units of blood.
For those fans wishing to participate in the blood drive, it will be held in the Lower Box Office of the Coliseum prior to the game. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advanced by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Or by visiting www.redcross.org.
As a thank you to those who help to save lives, participants will receive a voucher for a pair of tickets to a future weeknight Islanders game. There is also a chance for those who gave blood that are in attendance on September 24th to enter a raffle for the opportunity to ‘High five’ the team as they take the ice.
