Mets close out series, stadium with shutout of Marlins: 1-0

In their final game at Sun Life Stadium, the New York Mets (70-71) closed out the three-game series against the Florida Marlins (63-79) with a 1-0 shutout victory on Wednesday night baseball.

The Mets have always had success in Florida, as the multi-named Stadium finishing with a 74-72 recorded in what was the home for the Marlins. The young Fish squad will have a state-of-the-art stadium to look forward too with a retractable roof.

Leading the Mets to the 1-0 victory in their finale against the Marlins was starter R.A. Dickey (W, 8-11) who tossed seven innings of four-hit baseball. The knuckle ball specialist also recorded three strike outs in the game. For R.A. it is his third win in a row, as the offense continue to comes through now for the righty.

New York continues their success on the road, as with this most recent stretch of games in D.C. and Florida the Amazin’s have a 4-2 record. The lone Mets run scored in the top of the first, as the igniter Jose Reyes started the game with a single to left field.

Lucas Duda ripped a double (17) to almost the same spot, which scored the speedy Reyes for the first Mets run. R.A. took the game the rest of the way, shutting down the Marlins offense until he was lifted in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Taking the game from there was new reliever Josh Stinson, a September call-up continues to impress in his outings thus far with the team. Also impressive was Manny Acosta, who earned his first save of the season.

Continuing to swing a hot stick for the Mets on the road is Jason Bay, who finished the night with two hits. It should be interesting to see if the New York outfielder can continue his hot hitting when he returns home to Citi Field on Thursday.

Thursday is when the Mets will be making up the final two games against the Atlanta Braves that were washed out by Hurricane Irene.

Game One will feature two rookie starters as Chris Schwinden is slated to make his Major League Debut. For fans curious to know what Schwinden will bring to the hill in his first start, many experts are saying that the righty may remind many of rookie-sensation Dillon Gee.

Atlanta will counter with Mike Minor (4-2, 4.09 ERA), with the first pitch slated for 4:10 p.m.

It maybe a feeling of déjà vu as Gee (12-5, 4.48 ERA) takes the hill for New York in Game Two.  Gee will take on Atlanta starter Julio Teheran (0-1, 5.19 ERA), with the first pitch slated for 7:40 p.m.
