The Seattle Reign defeated Sky Blue FC by a final of 1-0, in what was weather fit for the visiting side in National Women’s Soccer League action on April 15.

Helping to lead the way for Seattle was a penalty kick by Megan Rapinoe in the sixth minute, in what was a stellar defensive effort by both clubs.

Sky Blue FC would have a chance to tie things up at the very end of the half when Reign goalkeeper Michelle Betos came out to play a ball and the ensuing chaos saw a rebound opportunity for forward Savannah McCaskill to possibly get a head on into a Seattle open net but it was too high.

The loss also spoilt the home coming of Two-time FIFA Player of the Year and New Jersey native Carli Lloyd, who returned to Sky Blue after an offseason trade. Lloyd will have an opportunity to play on the same pitch where she competed in College.

Lloyd was honored by the team prior to the game for scoring her 100th career national team goal.

Making her Head Coaching Debut at her Alma mater was Denise Reddy, who was an assistant coach with the Washington Sprint prior to obtaining the position with Sky Blue. Reddy has previously served as a head coach in three different countries and is a UEFA Pro Licensed Coach with experience as a head coach in Sweden, Denmark and the United States.

This is two tough matches thus far for Sky Blue, but according to Coach Reddy the team is playing quality soccer and is making positive strides to obtaining a winning result very soon.

Sky Blue FC will go on the road to take on Chicago Red Stars on 4/21, prior to returning home to Yurcak Field on May 5 to take on the Houston Dash at 7:00 p.m.
