With a season high 5,863 fans in attendance and an opportunity to beat one of the best teams on the table the New York Lizards (9-5) were able to remain undefeated, while earning a 12-11 overtime thriller over the Denver Outlaws (9-5) in Major League Lacrosse action on Saturday.
Even though the Lizards will not be able to host a playoff game at Shuart Stadium, the team is undefeated in games played on the Hofstra University Campus this season. This victory is also a huge momentum builder for a team, who is heading to the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Playoffs. It will be a tough road for this team, as they will have to once again defeat this very tough Denver team.
New York was also able to earn their second victory against the Outlaws, as the last time the Lizards were able to accomplish the feat was in 2012, which was a 14-8 decision.
This victory was a bit more of a nail-biter for the hosts, as they had to battle for every possession and goal, as it was a back-and-forth affair between two very good teams.
Leading the way on the offensive side of the game were JoJoMarasco and Michael Kimmel, who both had two goal games. Rob Pannell and Ned Crotty also sparked the offense with both goals and assist for New York. Kyle Hartzell netted the game-winner in OT for the Lizards, while face-off specialist Greg Gurenlian dominated at the face-off X, going 18-27. Keeper Drew Adams was sensational in the cage making 22 saves, including a few split saves and quick-stick saves.
